In love with Atlassian Confluence? Or wondering what it could offer you and your organization? We've got the scoop on the all-new Confluence 5 and what the update means to you.
Users of Atlassian Confluence all over the world, rejoice. The latest update to Atlassian's flagship collaboration and content sharing tool is now available and it packs quite the punch. We've laid out the most important changes the latest release brings and what changes it could mean for your company or organization.
Far and away the most outstanding difference users will note when they experience Confluence 5 is the complete reconstruction of the software's interface. In the words of Atlassian Co-founder and CEO Mike Cannon-Brookes, Confluence 5 has brought "probably the biggest interface overhaul we’ve ever done in Atlassian’s history."
Creating content with ease
For years Confluence has been trusted as the most effective platform for internal collaboration and sharing among companies large and small. With the update, Atlassian has taken the process of generating new content and made it even more intuitive and speedy. The global "Create" button enables you to develop pages, blogs, notes and documents from anywhere within your instance.
What you need, by your side
Confluence's powerful live search tool has always enabled users to find what they need with a simple keyword. Confluence 5 brings another wall down by saving the user from hitting a keystroke to get to their destination. From ever page that operates the standard Confluence theme, users can view other space pages and documents as well as space tools - all with customizable configuration. Furthermore, the content is contextual. When viewing a blog post, the sidebar will display previous blog posts within the same space. The entire bar can even be collapsed in order to focus on content.
More features and improvements that make us giddy
A faster page editor, JIRA notifications within WorkBox and real-time in-page alerts (just like you're used to in social media) are just a few more of the many gifts users will find in Confluence 5. And administrators of Confluence have as much to cheer about. The introduction of a more functional People Directory, the ability to remove page versions and bolstered LDAP performance make the switch to 5 a no-brainer for many.
